An Ode to Videos

This is an extremely lazy post, but one I’ve been wanting to do for a while. Ochr 1 provides a constant stream of videos for our viewing pleasure. We thank them kindly for this service. These songs are all great, and made even more enjoyable thanks to the added visual element.

Dyma bostyn hynod ddiog, a ‘dw i’n ymddiheuro am hynny, ond mae’n un ‘dw i wedi bod yn meddwl wneud ers tro. Hoffwn ddiolch o galon i Ochr 1 am wneud fidios cerddoriaeth mor gyson a mor safonnol, petai genai het, mi fyswn yn ei dynnu. Dyma gerddoriaeth hyfryd, i wylio ac i wrando.

Swnami

Swnami’s new album came out last month. As you’d expect, it has some extremely infectious guitar pop which you can sample below, however I would recommend buying the whole thing here, because then you won’t be missing out on my two faves, the darker and more intense, Cysur Cyffur and Mabeso. Enjoy.

Ymddiheuriadau i hogia Swnami, o’ni yn meddwl bo fi WEDI rhannu fy mrwdfrydedd am yr albym yma yn ol ym mis Awst. Mae’n debyg bod y rhan fwyaf ohonoch chi wedi eu gweld nhw’n chwarae dros yr haf, ac yn sicr mi fyddwch chi wedi eu clywed nhw ar y radio. Mae’r albym yn mynd i blesio cefnogwyr brwd y band gyda nifer o ganeuon cyfarwydd (Magnet, Gwenwyn), ond mae ‘na ambell gan ddwysach sy’n cadw diddordeb ffans newydd (Cysur Cyffur, Mabeso). Da iawn wir. Mi allwch chi brynun’r albym cyfa yn fan hyn, a mi fyswn i’n argymell gwneud hynny.

Palenco

IwlFcMW_

I’ve just bought the new Palenco album and it’s wonderful. Track 8, Actorion, is my standout track, but you’ll have to buy the whole thing to hear it. You can buy it in all good (Welsh) record shops and here, on IKACHING’s website.

Here’s a taster:

Yr Ods’ Griff Lynch

Yr Ods have been quiet recently, although their headline gig at the Eisteddfod next month is eagerly awaited. In the mean time, feast your ears on frontman Griff Lynch’s solo offerings. Sneakily posted on soundcloud last week, these new tracks have the familiar Ods combination of pointed lyrics and poppy sound…. but a little grumpier. An accolade with which Griff would be quite happy, I imagine. What do you think?

Wrth edrych ymlaen at gig fawr yr Ods ar faes yr Eisteddfod ym Meifod fis nesa, mae hwn yn damed i aros pryd. Dyma ganeuon cafodd eu postio ar soundcloud Griff Lynch, y prif leisydd, yn ddiweddar. Os ‘da chi’n nabod Griff, a mae lot ohonoch chi yn, newch chi adnabod geiriau pigog yr Ods, y swn popi melys yna mae nhw’n wneud mor arbennig…. a mae cymeriad dyn blin mwyaf hoffus Cymru i’w glywed yn glir yn y ddwy gan isod. Be ‘da chi’n feddwl?

Gwyll Arall

We’re going on a magical journey….from the mean streets of Cardiff to the even meaner streets of Caernarfon. This festival has grown from a tiny event a few years back to a great line-up in an amazing setting.

Highlights include Geraint Jarman, Meic Stevens and Nesdi Jones with a full bhangra band and Carcharorion in Caernarfon castle on Saturday night. Don’t miss another chance to see the Bur Hoff Bau film either, it’s good.

Esgus eitha da i heglu hi am adra… mae’r nos Sadwrn yn y castall yn mynd i fod yn noson i’w chofio wrth i Carcharorion a Meic Stevens rannu llwyfan gyda Nesdi Jones a’i band bhangra a Geraint Jarman. A manteisiwch ar y cyfle i weld y Bur Hoff Bau, os nad ydych chi wedi gwneud hynny’n barod.

Am fwy o wybodaeth, ac i weld y rhaglen yn ei gyfanrwydd, cliciwch ar y poster isod.

Tree of Wolves

Here is a new band to Juxtapozed, Tree of Wolves. Tom Robinson from 6 music described them as, “Highly promising… A snare-driven rhythm track that crackles with energy topped by yearning vocals that carry absolute conviction”.

They’re a 5 piece band from Carmarthen comprising Aled Thomas, Gruffydd Wyn Owen, Mark Howells, Ray Thomas and Charli Bicknell. This is a ‘preface’ to the band’s forthcoming EP, Sleepwalking. Check out Shapes, below, or head to their soundcloud for further listening.
